Meet John Davis

A message from Team MacRae Candidate John Davis:

Hi, I’m John Davis, a proud born and bred Mount Isa local. I am throwing my hat in with Team MacRae to run for Mount Isa Council, as I believe in what the team embodies, including our determination to work together with the community for a better future for our city.

I believe Mount Isa needs an active council that is enthusiastic and willing to build our great community, together. With a strong Council we will achieve what we set our minds to and build an inclusive community, diminishing discrimination and removing barriers.

In 2015 I was made redundant from my position at the mines. After 11 years of service, it was my job and it was taken from me. This hit me hard and I took a long time to find myself again. This experience has provided me a unique understanding of how our community will be impacted by the recent announcement and how we can overcome some of the obstacles that the uncertainty can create.

As an active member of our community, I’m an avid Apexian and for almost 23-years I’ve been helping to organise the biggest one night event held annually in Mount Isa, along with numerous other service events for our community. I’ve been involved with Apex at club, district, state levels, and national levels and this has helped me see how regulations, laws and policies and can flow through all levels of any organisation. I’ve held many roles in Apex - including the Lucky Numbers Trailer Director, Club Treasurer, Secretary, Club President, Rock Pop Mime Chairman, and for the last four years I’ve been the Regional Communicator for clubs from Cairns to Mackay.

Having raised my family here in Mount Isa, I’ve also been a part of the Healy school P&C, where both my kids attended. One of my most memorable highlights during this time was taking a group of students from Healy and Central schools to Tallebudgera, where I got to see the faces of some of the students that had never seen the ocean or been outside North West Queensland.

Through these community roles I’ve been able to see what our community can achieve when we work together. That’s why I believe we need a Council that will work with the community for better outcomes. This is why I’m proud to be part of Team MacRae and our focus on building a better future for Mount Isa by growing the local economy and making our community affordable, safe, and liveable for local families.
